I want this 09/08/2011
This is amazing. I'm going to take a second and speak my mind, so you'll have to excuse the jargon - it's the only way I can explain why I love this. Using a scanner is cheaper, but I like to have layers in my drawings, so I end up wasting tracing paper and doing multiple scans. Also, Illustrator isn't always the greatest at converting my sketches into vectors, no matter what settings I use in live trace. This will save me hours upon hours of time. I'm sold. 1 Comment Does the S look familiar to you? Yes? No? How about now? The client had the idea to use the f hole as an s. So smart! After that, everything else was easy. A whole new realm of possiblities 08/16/2011
As you know, I love weebly, but holy crap, my mind just exploded after watching this I'm really interested in recreating my website with this. Weebly is great, but I had to redesign one of their templates. I haven't made a really eye-catching site because I really don't want to code, sometimes my brain crashes at the site of code. All this code talk is giving me queazy memories of that database development class I suffered through back in college. So let's not talk about code! From what I understand, Muse is an extension of InDesign. No static code, just interactive, creative design. They have a trial version. Before I download it, I'm going to do a bunch of research and sketching to get a concrete idea of what I want my new site to look like. This is going to be fun and take time. Come back in a month – or maybe a year, and you'll see the transformation. Don't Forget the Sponsors 06/10/2011
Every year the Sherwood Cultural Arts Commission hosts Movies in the Park. This year I was privileged enough to join the Commission. I designed an ad for them with all the information, or so I thought. Then I got an email back asking me to add the logos of the sponsors. I was worried I wouldn't be able to fit it in to this 2.125x3.5 ad, but I moved some things around and split things up so it now looks like this: Sometimes splitting things up can actually give you more room. I used a design template... shame on me? 06/03/2011
Alex is always encouraging me to sell the things I make. I finally decided to get a booth and just do it. I'm making these nursing covers that can also be used as car seat covers to sell at the Robin Hood Festival. In order to cut down costs, I thought I could make a trade with them... a revamped website for booth space. They agreed to the trade. Here's what their old site looks like: And this is what my website looks like: If you are a weebly frequenter or if you've read a certain previous post, you'll recognize the design as their template. Yes, I used someone else's design, yes it was hard to do, but here's my reasoning: If I had used my own images, it would have taken me much, much longer. It would have taken more time than I could afford. So I used their design, but still used my own skills with organizing content, choosing fonts, and creating headers. While the overall design is not mine, I can still take credit for the time spent figuring out which fonts and layouts would be best and what should go where. Web Design is fun, but I really enjoy print design much more as it is my strong suit. If someone is paying me to create a site, of course I'll use my own images. In this case, the pay only goes up to the price of the booth, so I needed to limit the time I spent creating the site. Oh, and don't worry, using a weebly template is com Invites 04/13/2011
My brother-in-law is getting married to a wonderful girl from Iceland! Here are the invites I have been working on for them: Focus Fu 12/13/2010
My husband, Alex, and I created a To-Do app for the iPhone called Focus Fu. Alex developed it and I created the interface as well as the icons. For more information, you can go to FocusFu.com or check it out on my iPhone Apps tab. I love Weebly.com 12/08/2010
I created this site using weebly.com. Let me tell you, it was so easy! I just clicked and dragged. Ok, I spent a lot of time designing everything from the background to the header, but they have a bunch of designs to choose from if you don't want to make your site unique. First I picked one of their designs that had a nice layout so I wouldn't have to make too many changes to the CSS code, then I downloaded their images for reference to placement and grid. After that, I created my own images and uploaded them pretty easily. Here's what my site pretty much looked like before I uploaded my own images: Of Course the picture of me was uploaded, but everything else is from their template. As you can see, they let you change a lot, in fact you can pretty much change everything including html and CSS. In order to upload your files, you need to click the HTML/CSS button (I circled it in yellow below) on the Design tab. After you've clicked the HTLM/CSS button, the screen below will come up on the HTML tab - do not be alarmed by the code, just click the FILES tab. Before you create your own images, download theirs for reference by clicking on each file, then click the previewed image in the blue outline. That will take you to the image itself where you will need to right-click it to download. Notice that the selected image above is just a thin line which up close looks like this: That's because they have repeated this image over and over again in the code. It looks fine, but is hard to use as a design grid. If you want a different background than their template, be sure to use a template that has a background image like the one I used (refer to top). Also, when uploading your files, make sure they have the same names as the files you're replacing, otherwise, your site will still look the same as the template. I hope that helps, you can always contact weebly with questions or me if you'd like. Before I finish, I want to point out the ability to use paypal, I'm not selling anything on this site in particular, but I'm thinking of selling some of my creations, so I tested out the feature and it's so accessible. I just put my paypal email address in the settings and it automatically linked my account with the paypal element I dragged from "Revenue" on the Elements tab. This blog feature is also pretty cool. Weebly, you're fantastic, thank you. Adios — the font 11/30/2010
I love typography, I especially love fonts with a bunch of different characters, right now, my favorite is Adios because there are so many different variations of each letter. Below is the invitation I created for my niece, notice the difference in all the e's. Some letters have more variations than others, but all have at least two. Stop Motion Animation 11/29/2010
I love to bring inanimate objects to life and give them personality with stop-motion animation. Below are two videos I created using this technique. | AuthorAlex and I have been married since July 2007. On May 6, 2010, we we're blessed with our little Avrie. We also have a dog named Cola.
